How To File A Provisional Patent Application..
The process is VERY SIMPLE…
Go to the USPTO and figure out how to use their website and file it.
Wait! It is not that simple!
The BEST ANSWER is: Watch someone actually File a Provisional Patent right in front of you and then copy what they do!
What if you could see how to file a provisional patent application by watching someone else filing one out? What if there was a Provisional Patent Video Course to help you file your provisional patent application?
Well, there is and it is very easy to use. Take a quick look at the Provisional Patent Video Course and watch the introduction video and then watch the video below that shows you what you get when you order the course. Double click to watch in full screen mode. Click the video again to stop it, or hit escape to get back to the normal screen size.
It is important to know that Congress is indeed working for YOU and for Big companies as well. Where they are working for YOU was to enact laws that made the USPTO make the provisional patent application, PPA, easy for anyone to file. It is like the 1040 EZ of the tax world. However, you know how “easy” that is. It is easy if you are shown. The same is true with the filing process for the provisional patent application.
It is also important to appreciate that attorneys really do NOT like folks like you meddling in their potential income stream by filing these things yourself! They would MUCH rather have you spend $5,000 to $10,000 and file a non-provisional patent application, NPA. However, there are SMART attorneys that have figured out if they HELP folks file their provisional patent application that there will be an income stream when the time comes to convert their PPA to an NPA and enjoy not only the fees to DRAFT the patent application but the fees to answer “Office Actions”.
Also, there are attorneys who say a PPA can not be modified or appended to or have any “new matter” added. The EXACT same thing is true with NPS’s so I have no clue why many mention that concern. I can only say the smart ones do not so be on the lookout for the “signs” of someone trying to coerce you to filing an NPA when you should be filing a PPA and test the waters.
And MOST IMPORTANTLY… It is CRITICAL to note the following:
